I like to collect older/used books on witchcraft. I just scored another one, so I'm a happy camper!

They hang nurses, don't they?

Odd, I was looking for something else when I found this pic online. It's the grave of Rebecca Nurse, who was hanged for witchcraft in Salem.

She was 71.

"Laylah"

I've always had a bit of a crush on Leila Waddell. She was the
muse/mistress of Aleister Crowley, and an interesting person in her own right. Sadly, there doesn't appear to be a great deal of information out there on her.

She had a sad sort of beauty.

Rosaleen Norton

"The New Zealand-born, Australian artist Rosaleen Norton (1917-1979) provides us with one of the few reasonably close parallels to Austin Spare. Bohemian, eccentric and extraordinarily talented, she has left her mark in Sydney folklore as 'the Witch of Kings Cross' and as a painter of the supernatural who was presumed during the moralistic social era of the 1950's to indulge in 'Satanism and pornography'. This view of her reflects the narrow judgemental attitudes that hounded her for most of her creative life."

I won a copy of Satanism and Witchcraft off of ebay. It's an interestingly written book, kind of stream of conscious. I'm not a Satanist, but I am very interested in "history of the craft" books, in particular ones written before 'Wicca' really took off. This one is dated 1939, and is surprisingly sympathetic to it's subject for something written at it's time.

I loathe reading the "witches are evil and must be destroyed" trash that is about 99% of the 'older' market.
